Danny Gblonya
Danny Kafui Gblonya, an IT Technician accused of stealing data bundle worth GH¢114, 255 belonging to Busy Internet was, yesterday, put before an Accra Circuit Court.
He was granted bail at the sum of GH¢150, 000 with three sureties. And the sureties must not earn less than GH¢1,000 monthly as part of the bail conditions granted by the court presided over by Harriet Dapaah.
The accused was charged for unauthorized circumvention and stealing.
According to Chief Inspector Simon Apiorsornu, the complainant, Nana Kwabena Aduhene of Busy Internet, on May 10, 2018, reported to the Cybercrime Unit of the CID Headquarters, Accra, that their online web portal where customers log on to purchase data bundles was illegally accessed and data bundle worth GH?114,255 has been fraudulently allocated to some customers.
The prosecutor said preliminary investigations revealed the identity of the intruders as Danny Gblonya, a resident of Dansoman, Accra and one Edwina Gblonya.
Police intelligence led to the arrest of the accused Danny Gblonya, the prosecutor said adding that investigations established that the accused person purchased data SIM cards of the service provider and registered them in his name and that of his sister Edwina Gblonya without her consent.
Further investigations revealed that suspect employed the use of a ‘spy software’ that was used to spy the back-end codes of the web portal of Busy Internet and identified vulnerabilities which he exploited by allotting data bundles to the data SIM cards he had purchased without authority.
The prosecutor said the accused person admitted to the act and was subsequently charged with the offence.
Meanwhile, the accused, Danny Gblonya has gone to court to file a civil case against DAILY GUIDE, its editor and a reporter, as well other newspapers for publishing the story about his arrest by the police.
According to his solicitor, Jonathan T. Sarblah, the accused has stated that the said publication coming out of a press conference by the police about his arrest was false and had been calculated to defame him.
He is therefore seeking an order for the story to be retracted and an official apology rendered to him, as well as aggravated damages of one million Ghana cedis (1,000,000) and the cost of the litigation.
