Suspected Rape, Murder At Breman Asikuma

Police personnel conveying the corpse for investigations to commence

Police have begun investigations into the circumstances under which a 45-year-old woman was allegedly raped and murdered by unknown persons around the Asikuma Senior High School (SHS) in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District of the Central Region last Saturday.

The deceased identified as Mercy Yaa Afful was reportedly found with her black stretch trousers removed to the knee level and lying in a prone position in a dense bush.

Reviewing the body, the area police revealed she sustained a deep cut on the right side of the head and the forehead with bruises on the face.

Advanced inspection at the scene found a lady’s blouse with blood stains hanged on a tree with drag marks on the ground about 20 metres from the body spot.

Broken cement blocks with blood stains on them suspected to have been used in committing the crime were seen at the scene.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicated that on April 6, 2019, at about 9:10am, the Assistant Headmaster of Breman Asikuma SHS, accompanied by the Senior House Mistress and Bright Brenya, a Housemaster of the school, reported at the Asikuma Police Station that the housemaster reported that about 3:00am the same day whilst in bed, he heard someone shouting “they are killing me”.

The next morning, around 7:00am, he woke up and found blood stains at the back of the school fence wall near his bungalow.

The police together with the complainants proceeded to the crime scene at Apegya, a suburb of Breman Asikuma, near the Asikuma SHS, and found the body.  Blood stains traced into a bush on the school land by the police led to the discovery of the corpse of the adult female.

Crime scene investigation found a lady’s blouse with blood stains hanged on a tree. Police further observed drag marks on the ground about 20 metres to the scene, besides broken cement blocks with blood stains on them suspected to have been used in committing the crime.

The remains were conveyed and deposited at Our Lady of Grace Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

However, no arrest had been made as and when this report was being filed.
