Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has charged chief directors at the various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the country to take full control of all government policies.
“We know that fundamentally, unless the chief directors and the technical directors at the ministries take ownership of these programmes, we will be giving a lot of talk and there will be little implementation because it is very important that implementation is done,” he noted when he delivered the keynote address at a Macro-Economic Policy Dialogue for chief directors of all the ministries.
The workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
That, he said, was because “If there is synergy among ministers, chief directors and the political authorities in implementing the programmes of government, then we will have success.”
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia believes that chief directors at the various ministries are the lifelines for the effective management of the state agencies.
He therefore, admonished them (chief directors) to work hard towards the realisation of the government’s flagship programmes and work hard to get them implemented for the benefit of the citizenry.
The five-day dialogue will have participants discussing topics such as the Recent Economic and Social Developments in Ghana and Africa; Overview of Africa’s Regional Integration Agenda; Financing of the African Union and The Need for Structural Transformation. The remaining sessions will consider issues such as, Industrialization-Led Growth; Continental Free Trade and Boosting Intra-African Trade; Agenda 2063, SDGs & National Plan; Natural Resources and Development.
The dialogue is, among other things, expected to address the issue of how Ghana could design and implement effective strategies and policies that will support the promotion of rapid, inclusive economic growth of the country.
