A 36-YEAR-old taxi driver, who plies his trade in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Regional capital, has been apprehended for allegedly murdering a 44-year-old man, Bright Asare.
Suspect Robert Appiah is reported to have assaulted Bright Asare, who is a resident of Anyinam in Kumasi over a slight misunderstanding, resulting in severe injuries to the latter.
Bright Asare was issued with a police medical form to seek immediate treatment but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries 24 hours later while on admission at the hospital.
The Konkromoase Police Station have since apprehended suspect Robert Appiah.
“On March 31, 2026, about 14:30 hours, Mr. Bright Asare, aged 44 years of Anyinam with blood oozing from fresh cuts on his left eyebrows and both knees, accompanied by his brother Stephen Asare, called at the station, and the former reported that a driver whose name he does not know, in charge of taxi cab with registration number AS 8483, assaulted him.
“He was issued a medical form to attend hospital for treatment, but today, April 1, 2026, about 2:00 a.m., information received indicates that the victim has passed on at the Hope X Change Hospital, Santasi.
“The said hospital was visited, and the deceased was found on the hospital’s bed in a supine position with a bandage around the chin and a stitched cut on the forehead,” Ashanti Central District Konkromoase Station report disclosed
According to the police, the body of the deceased has since been conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
“The suspect, Robert Appiah, aged 36, has been arrested. He will be cautioned and sent to court to be remanded into custody soonest,” the police statement concluded.
