The late Josephine Asante
Josephine Asante, the Marketing and Public Affairs Manager of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), was reportedly shot to death by unknown assailants yesterday dawn.
Ms Asante was murdered at her residence at Mataheko in Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
The mother of one was said to have been gagged with a pillowcase by the assailants.
She was found in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds at the back of her head in her house at Emef Hill View Palace, which is a gated community.
She also sustained injuries on the forehead, chin and other parts of her body.
According to reports, perpetrators of the heinous crime left the scene without taking her phones, jewellery and electrical gadgets in the room, raising suspicion that they were contracted to kill her.
She left behind a son and a husband – a retired senior staff of GPHA who is currently outside the country.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE from a source close to the deceased and police said on Saturday, January 12, 2019, Josephine attended GPHA Senior Staff party of the Authority.
She returned home at about 1:30 am on Sunday but unknown to her, the assailants trailed her while others also hid in the house.
The assailants, after the incident, locked her in the bedroom and threw the keys on the compound.
The 12-year-old son of the late Public Affairs Manager reportedly attempted to open the bedroom of the mother the next morning but the door was locked.
The boy later discovered the key to the room on the compound and found the body of his mother in her bedroom.
He subsequently raised the alarm which attracted neighbours to the scene.
“The killers were able to open the gate with a remote and there was no sign of a damaged door and security wires on the fence. The houseboy and the deceased were the only ones with the remotes. This shows that the killers entered the house without any difficulty,” a source said.
Meanwhile, the body has been conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue in Accra pending autopsy.
As at the time of filing this report, staff of GPHA and personnel of the Homicide Unit of the Tema Regional Police Command had converged on her residence.
In a related development, the 24-year-old house boy of the deceased has reportedly been picked up by the police for interrogation.
