Health Concern Ghana, a privately-owned health training institution in Accra, has announced the commencement of a post Nursing Assistant Clinical (NAC) / Nursing Assistive Personnel (NAP) midwifery training programme for nurses.
The introduction of the midwifery course, scheduled to start from February 2018, follows the institution’s successful accreditation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to run the course.
The accreditation makes Health Concern Ghana the first private institution to offer the midwifery course in Accra, which, according to management of the school, will help boost the level of skilled professionals in maternal and child healthcare in the country.
Mary Aboagye, Principal of Health Concern Ghana, made this known at the seventh graduation ceremony where 300 students who had successfully completed their training in Nursing Assistant Clinical, Health Assistant Clinical and Nursing Assistive personnel programmes were presented with their certificates.
The principal mentioned that Health Concern Ghana is poised for greater contribution in the provision of quality education and top-notch healthcare delivery, hence the decision to seek accreditation for a midwifery course.
“We remain committed to the highest quality nursing education and a variety of projects that are specifically designed to address various needs and concerns in Ghana’s health arena,” she said.
Mrs Aboagye pointed out that some achievement of the institution which include the presentation of a maternal and child health improvement proposal to First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, hosting of the church health conference, launch of a corporate health programme, sustained exchange programme with the Danish Social College and establishment of a home care unit that is creating jobs for graduate nurses.
She said that although the institution was facing some challenges beyond their control, management was working to overcome them with God’s help.
George Kyeremeh, Former Director, Nursing and Midwifery Service, in his remarks as the guest speaker, praised Health Concern Ghana for blazing the trail of private health training institution in the country.
“It has since its establishment turned out many highly trained cadres of health staff who carry out their duties with outstanding performance in the health facilities throughout the country,” he said.
Mr Kyeremeh urged the graduates to apply their skills accurately as they strive to always attain the best for their patients, clients and themselves.
