Tricycle Snatcher Nabbed in Tamale

Suspect Salim Alhassan

Salim Alhassan, 20, has been arrested by residents of Zanjirigu in the Northern Region for snatching a tricycle from the owner Osman Iddrisu at knifepoint.

DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the suspect and one Hafiz hired the services of a tricycle driver to transport them from Tamale to a particular destination. Midway through the journey, one of them pulled a knife and ordered the driver to step out of the tricycle. They subsequently sped off towards the Salaga Road.

According to reports, the driver saw a motor rider and told him about the incident.

The motor rider made a call to the nearby village to ensure the arrest of the suspects when they get there.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that when the armed robbers got to the village and saw the mob on the main road, they sensed danger and abandoned the tricycle and ran towards a river in the bush.

Salim Alhassan jumped into the river but realized that it was too deep and came out after which he was arrested.

Hafiz who also jumped into the river could not be found.

The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, said Hafiz cannot be confirmed dead because his body had not been found, adding that the police have asked the community members to inform them should they get him dead or alive.

“The police for now will declare Hafiz wanted and not dead because his body has not been found yet even though the community members say he jumped into the river.”

According to him, Salim Alhassan is currently in police custody assisting in police investigations.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh stated that after the investigations, the suspect would be charged with robbery and arraigned before court.
