Two Killed At Atebubu

The injured Fulani on admission

A MISUNDERSTANDING between Konkomba yam farmers and some Fulanis over grazing piece of land at Atebubu in the Brong-Ahafo Region can generate trouble if the security agents do not intervene early enough.

Two people believed to be Fulanis – Seidu Musah, 38 and Alhaji Madzom – were reportedly killed last week Wednesday by Konkombas and another – Alhaji Issah – is on admission at the emergency ward of the Atebubu Government Hospital as a result of serious injuries he reportedly sustained.

Vice chairman of the Atebubu Cattle Sellers’ Association, Mahazu Yakubu, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on telephone, said more than 1,500 cattle belonging to the Fulani herdsment had also been slaughtered by the Konkombas and the carcasses taken away.

Explaining the circumstances that led to the killing of their colleagues, Mr. Mahazu said, the Konkombas said that a Fulani man had killed a woman at Akokoa and so they mounted a barrier and captured all Fulanis with their cattle and killed them. According to him, the intervention of some police escorts reduced the killing to two. He said one of the Fulanis was killed at Dzato Zongo whilst the other at Akokoa

Mr. Mahazu alleged that other 200 cattle were killed over the weekend at Bolga Nkwanta, Biposu and Umantin; and called on the government and the security agents to come to their aid.

He said the nomadic herdsmen brought the animals from Prang and Yeji to Atebubu but due to the harassment, they were preparing to go back yet, the people accosted them and unleashed violence on them.

The Atebubu Amantin District Police Commander, DSP Edward Konyer,  could not confirm or deny  the killing of the two Fulanis but confirmed that a woman rather had lodged a complaint that a Fulani man had requested sex from her as she went to fetch water from a borehole. He said when the woman refused, the Fulani smashed her head, resulting in injuries. The woman he said, had since been admitted at Kaise Hospital in the Ejura District of the Ashanti Region.
