Some of the members of the traditional council at the press conference
The Upper Dixcove Traditional Area has declared Ebenezer Kojo Kum, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West, unwelcome in the traditional area.
According to the traditional council, the MP and his supporters had allegedly insulted the integrity and personality of Obrempong Hima Dakyi XIV, Omanhene of Upper Dixcove Traditional Area.
They claimed that the MP and his followers who are on the same WhatsApp platform reportedly went on social media insulting the Omanhene with unprintable words.
The council claimed that the Omanhene of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwasi Agyeman, was at the forefront in acquiring a site in the Ahanta West Municipality for the construction of a regional hospital for the Western Region.
The council members noted that addressing a press conference recently, Obrempong Hima Dakyi praised Nana Kwasi Agyeman for working to ensure that the regional hospital was located in Ahanta West. “We need to praise Nana Agyeman for his effort. This statement made by Obrempng Hima Dakyi was why our Omanhene was insulted,” they stated.
Addressing a press conference, a member of the council and the area’s family head, Kwame Amo, said the council members felt slighted.
“The MP, together with his people, insulted the Omanhene just because he praised the Lower Dixcove chief. We feel very slighted and we are not going to take the behaviour of the MP and his people kindly,” he said.
He described the conduct of the MP’s supporters as ‘gross misbehaviour’ and that the council could not guarantee their safety in the traditional area.
“We are going to deal ruthlessly with MP Kojo Kum and his people, especially those on the platform who insulted us,” he said.
“We are warning Kojo Kum and his supporters not to set foot on any of the communities in the traditional area, because he cannot tell our chief that he is a criminal and come to his community to campaign,” he pointed out.
He noted that if they disobeyed the orders, the traditional council would invoke the spirit of their ancestors to deal with the MP and his supporters.
