Urban Roads To The Rescue

The engineers inspecting the road yesterday when they descended upon the place

The Department of Urban Roads has moved to asphalt the potholed backside of the Nima residence of President Akufo-Addo.

The eyesore presented by the nasty road was a subject of an editorial a few days ago following which officials of the department led by Engineer Abass moved into action.

As we compose this story, top level engineers from the department have served notice to carpenters behind the residence and mechanics to remove their items as the contractor moves to site to commence work.

With security clearance now given by the National Security apparatus for the work to commence, it is hoped that within the next few days the previously nasty looking road would wear a new look.

The gutter from a nearby uncompleted yet occupied structure which empties its domestic waste water on the road and creating pools of standing water would receive a treat the engineers told DAILY GUIDE.

In a commentary on the subject, DAILY GUIDE pointed out how the eyesore needs a reversal because so many foreigners from the other hemisphere in the country on tour put up at a nearby hostel – certainly not returning with a good impression of Ghanaians.

It is hoped that when the project is completed the area would wear a new-look commensurate with the status of the President’s residence.

The happiness in the residents in the neighbourhood when they saw visible signs that the road would soon witness a facelift, could not be ignored.

As for the many motorists who ply the road they can be assured about the longevity of their shock absorbers.

The bad state of the road was aggravated by the incessant use of the place by commuters or trotro to make their turns close to the bus stop at the Police Station.

Sometimes they are stopped by the Police but most of the time they are not. The presence of a guard detail from the Formed Police Unit has posed a deterrent to them for some time now hence the reduction in the nuisance they cause at the point.

The thought about how the potholed and dusty road would be as the rainy season gathers momentum has now given way to elation; thanks to the intervention of the Department of Urban Roads.
