Ya-Na Blesses Bawumia

The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abubakari Mahama II has hailed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for being elected a first Northerner to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Ya-Na, “I have also noted with satisfaction, as well as other Northerners, that you are the first ever Northerner to lead the NPP. We definitely are proud of this achievement and know that you are more than qualified to occupy this lofty position in your party.”

The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abubakari Mahama said this when Dr Bawumia paid a courtesy call to him, where he indicated that “My son, [Bawumia] your elevation to this high office is not a surprise to Ghanaians who follow our political development in the country. Your contributions to your party and the development of Ghana provide ample reasons why you should be elevated to lead your party. Sincere and persistent contributions to a cause are never lost and this is well demonstrated in the reward that has been presented to you’’.

The Ya Na further added that D. Bawumia’s election to the high office has not come as a surprise to Ghanaians because of his contribution to the development of the country, adding that the Northerners are proud of his achievements and believe that he can occupy the highest office in the country.

Ya-Na continues “This is a big responsibility that has been placed on your head and I pray that you will be up to the task and carry out your duties as successfully as you can’’, and also urged Dr. Bawumia to prove his competency in leadership because the task ahead will not be easy.

“It is now left to you to prove that you can lead them to the promised land. It is not an easy task and you would surely need the support of all the other leaders and their supporters in your party to deliver the goods to them,” he stated.

The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, being the first Muslim to lead the NPP into a general election two weeks ago takes over the leadership role of the New Patriotic Party, NPP from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after 16 years.

Dr Bawumia, who served as the running mate to President Akufo-Addo since 2008 victory marks a historic moment when he was elected as the NPP flagbearer, following the party’s presidential primary, which is a significant milestone.

He secured a substantial victory with 61.43% of the total votes, with Kennedy Agyapong, his closest rival, receiving 37.41% of the vote share.

The other two contestants, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai Nimo, garnered 0.75% and 0.41% of the votes, respectively.
