Ndan Ya Na Abukari II and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
The King of Dagbon, Ndan Ya Na Abukari II, has praised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for conducting a clean campaign ahead of the December 2024 general election.
According to Ya Na, Dr. Bawumia listened to the counsel he offered him when the NPP flagbearer first visited him, saying that the Vice President has so far campaigned on issues, highlighting his government’s achievements without resorting to insults.
“I wish to commend you for adhering to my advice not to use offensive words in your campaign. Issues-based campaigns devoid of insults is what Ghanaians need. I entreat you to direct all your campaign members and supporters to follow your good conduct,” the Dagbon King said.
This came to light when Dr. Bawumia paid a courtesy call on Ya Na at the Gbewaa Palace as part of his five-day constituency-focused tour in the five northern regions.
He also commended the NPP government for the numerous development projects in Dagbon that have had a good impact on socio-economic activity in the area.
Ya Na, however, urged the NPP flagbearer to assist the contractor in charge of the Yendi Sports Stadium in completing the project, which will improve sports infrastructure in the kingdom’s eastern corridor.
Change Agent
The flagbearer of the ruling NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, disclosed that he has been an agent of change as Vice President with its limited powers.
According to him, he will do even more as President when given the mandate to serve as leader of the nation.
Dr. Bawumia said he had initiated 33 policies which have transformed Ghana, and urged the electorate to vote for him on December 7.
“John Mahama will only have four years if he becomes president, but when you vote for me, I will have eight years, and I am positive that the eight years will be more beneficial to Ghanaians than four years,” he stated.
According to him, he will be accountable to the people of Ghana, as he will come back to them to renew his mandate.
Dr. Bawumia stated that the NPP government had constructed Ghana’s longest road, the Tamale-Yendi-Tatale road, which is a 167-kilometre road project.
He reassured the people that he would keep his promises to them when elected president, adding that combining the fertile abilities of the youth and properly thought-through policies and programmes will surely take Ghana to the next level.
The NPP flagbearer visited several constituencies, including Kpandai, Wulensi, Bimbilla, Chereponi, and Mion.
He began his campaign in the Nalerigu/Gambaga, Yunyoo and Bunkpurugu constituencies, all in the North East Region on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Dr. Bawumia was in Tatale/Sanguli, Zabzugu and Yendi constituencies where engaged with the energised party folks and ordinary Ghanaians, who appreciated his vision for Ghana’s future.
He expressed his gratitude to the traditional authorities including Nayiri, Gbintiri Naaba, Yunyoo Rana and Bunkpurugu Naaba, for their warm welcome into their palaces.
At meetings with the chiefs, key stakeholders and the youth, he again underscored the point of having been an impactful Vice President.
“I have been an agent of change as Vice President with its limited powers, and I will do even more as President when given the mandate to serve as leader of the nation,” he stressed.
The NPP flagbearer, who has been on a campaign tour since outdooring his running mate on July 9, 2024, was enthusiastic about his endorsement of his vision for Ghana’s next chapter by the people.
He was amazed by the energy of the youth at the various engagements, notwithstanding the rains, and viewed the development as the people’s willingness to help the NPP ‘break the eight’.
