The Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency, Farouk Aliu Mahama, has disbursed Ghs210,000 worth of scholarship funds to 123 tertiary students from Yendi to cover the payment of their tuition fees.

The support forms part of the MP’s education and human capital development, through the Farouk Aliu Mahama Educational Care Fund(FAMEC-FUND).

The 123 beneficiaries comprised thirty-five(35) females and eighty-eight(88) males currently pursuing various courses at the country’s public universities and colleges of education including; Computer Science, Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Business Administration, Social Communication, Biochemistry, Diploma in Education, Statistics and Mathematics, Agricultural Sciences amongst others.

At a short ceremony in Yendi, Mr. Aliu Mahama said financial constraints have been a major obstacle for many bright young minds, forcing them to abandon their educational aspirations and settle for a life that is far below their potential and that as an elected representative of the people, he must bridge this gap and provide opportunities for growth and development hence the MP’s Scholarship Scheme.

He indicated that the MP’s Scholarship Scheme is not just about financial aid but rather it is about recognizing and celebrating talent, resilience, and the desire to succeed by investing in young individuals and investing in the future of the constituency and the nation.

“We are creating a generation of educated and empowered individuals who will go on to make significant contributions in various fields, be it medicine, engineering, law, or any other sphere of academic pursuits”.

Mr. Mahama urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity and not let it go to waste and encouraged them to pursue their dreams with passion, immerse themselves in knowledge, and strive for excellence in everything they do and also remember that with great power comes great responsibility.

“You have no reason to fail. We were like you some years back, and you can be like us some years to come. The government is working hard to fix up your classrooms and to get you the materials you need to learn. We are doing our part here too to pay your fees. But you have to do your part too. So, I expect all of you to put in your best efforts to succeed. I expect great things from each of you. Don’t let us down. Make us proud. Use the skills and knowledge you acquire to uplift your communities and create a better future for all”.

The Yendi MP reiterated his commitment to the development and education of the youth in the Yendi constituency and that the MP’s Scholarship Scheme will continue to grow and expand, reaching even more deserving students in the years to come.

“Let us all work together to build a society where every child has equal access to quality education and equal opportunities for a bright future. I would like to express my gratitude to the education department, the selection committee, and the community leaders who have provided invaluable guidance and support. I also want to acknowledge the generous donors who have contributed to the establishment and growth of this fund. Your belief in the power of education and your desire to make a positive impact in the lives of these young individuals is truly commendable”.

The Yendi Municipal Deputy Director of GES Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Habib, thanked the Yendi MP for his support towards the education of needy but brilliant students in the constituency.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to DGN Online lauded the Yendi MP for supporting them and assured that they would make the MP and the entire constituency proud by using their knowledge acquired to impact their various communities.
