Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has commended the management of ZEN Petroleum Limited for its commercial growth since receiving its license in the early phase of operations in 2009.

Speaking at the ZEN Retail Excellence Awards 2026, Mr. Tameklo noted that the company entered the market at a time when the country’s downstream petroleum sector was becoming increasingly competitive and structured.

“From those humble beginnings, ZEN Petroleum has grown into a significant player within the industry. What started as a focused petroleum distribution business has evolved into a diversified petroleum enterprise with a very strong retail station network, storage and distribution capacity, and a recognizable brand presence across strategic locations in the country,” he said.

With approximately 63 retail stations strategically located across the country, ZEN Petroleum is expected to expand further in 2026 and beyond.

“This expansion shows their commitment not only to commercial growth but also to serving communities nationwide with accessible, quality petroleum products,” Edudzi Tameklo added.

He highlighted that the company moves over 30 million liters of petroleum products monthly, supporting both consumer mobility and industrial operations, including the mining and logistics sectors.

“I must state that ZEN Petroleum has demonstrated commendable adherence to regulatory requirements over the years. Consistency in meeting these obligations contributes positively to overall sector stability. For this, ZEN Petroleum deserves recognition as its product offerings have expanded in line with market demand and national energy needs,” he said.

Managing Director of ZEN Petroleum, William Tewiah, reflected on the company’s 16-year journey, describing it as a growth from curiosity into a trusted force within the nation’s downstream petroleum industry.

Acknowledging the challenges facing the sector, Tewiah noted, “Issues that threaten sustainability, distort fair competition, and undermine consumer trust remain. A healthy industry requires strong oversight, responsible operators, and shared accountability. We believe that together, regulators, industry players, policymakers, and the media can confront these challenges and build an industry that is fair, efficient, and sustainable.”

Mr. Tewiah also credited the company’s progress to its workforce. “From the pump attendants who greet customers at dawn and serve them late into the night, to the retail officers ensuring operational excellence, and the leaders providing direction and inspiration, to every member of the ZEN family: we see you, we appreciate you, and tonight we celebrate you.”

The awards ceremony recognized excellence across ten categories. Notable winners included Toufiq Mohammed Abdallah as Outstanding Zonal Manager of the Year; Edward Kofi Adiabo, Awonseba Azagsuk Azantilow, and Mavis Agbanaglo as Exceptional Station Managers; and Kelly Terbi Nartey, Rhoda Frimpong, and Samuel Dartey as Distinguished Station Supervisors of the Year.
