In a significant move to tackle the growing menace of illegal drugs in the community, the Sabon Zongo Accra Neighbourhood Watch Committee, in collaboration with Zongo Against Drugs, have arrested four individuals suspected of involvement in drug-related activities.
The suspects, all residents of Sabon Zongo, are aged 18, 20, 21, and 23 years respectively and their arrests highlights the rising trend of youth illegal drug peddling and use.
The operation, which took place earlier on Sunday, was led by Chief Hajj Kamal Abubakar Bebe, the Chairman of Zongo Against Drugs, who has been at the forefront of community-led initiatives against drug abuse in the area.
The arrested individuals were found in possession of substances suspected to be drugs. Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Shukura Police Station for further investigations and action.
Chief Hajj Kamal Abubakar Bebe emphasised that the operation is part of a larger, ongoing effort to curb drug abuse and prevent crime, especially among the youth in Sabon Zongo. “Our community cannot sit idle while drugs destroy the future of our young people,” he said, urging parents, guardians, and community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
Residents of Sabon Zongo have expressed support for the operation, commending the combined efforts of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee and Zongo Against Drugs. Community leaders have called on everyone to work together to create a safe and drug-free environment, stressing that the fight against illegal drugs requires the active participation of all residents.
This latest operation marks a continued commitment by community stakeholders to address the challenges posed by drug abuse and ensure that Sabon Zongo remains a safe and secure neighbourhood for families and the youth.
