Vandal Kills Vandal

George Osei Mensah and Martin Tweneboah

The police have apprehended a 23-year-old footballer and old vandal of the University of Ghana, Legon, for allegedly stabbing his colleague with a broken bottle.

George Osei Mensah, according to reports, committed the act after a misunderstanding which escalated into a fight.

The deceased, Martin Tweneboah aka Tipsy 32, also an old vandal, was allegedly stabbed in the neck multiple times near Father Barcus’ statue, in front of Commonwealth Hall on campus.

The two were said to be among other vandals who were returning from the funeral of a former colleague at Dodowa on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Dean of Students of the University, Professor Francis Nunoo, earlier confirmed to the media that both the suspect and the deceased were old vandals, and no longer students of the university.

Prof Nunoo said reports received indicated that the misunderstanding between the two started while they were returning from the funeral; but at a point it became nasty and eventually fatal when they alighted from the bus on campus.

“The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital by the suspect and the university authorities but was later pronounced dead,” he indicated.

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Efia Tenge, confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that police received a distress call Saturday at about 7:20 pm from the Legon Hospital authorities that a young man, believed to be a student, had been stabbed to death and the body deposited at the facility.

She said the police proceeded to the hospital and saw the body of Martin Tweneboah aka Tipsy.

She said the suspect, George Mensah, was also at the hospital and so he was immediately arrested.

“Suspect Mensah was reported to have grabbed a knife from a khebab seller near the Father Barcus Statue and attempted to stab the victim but it was taken away from him and he quickly grabbed the broken bottle to attack the colleague around 6:40 pm,” ASP Tenge narrated.
