The suspects after they were arrested
The TEMA POLICE have apprehended some 105 persons including nine women in the metropolis for breaking the COVID-19 protocols including the wearing of nose masks as a preventive measure against the spread of the virus.
The suspects who are aged between 17 and 64 were rounded up at Community One when they were busily going about their usual businesses whilst not complying with the directive to wear face masks.
According to Chief Inspector Stella Dede Dzakpasu, Acting Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, “out of the total number of suspects arrested in a four-hour operation, 22 of them had no masks at all, while 83 had the masks in their possession but refused to wear them.
“Some of the suspects called friends and relatives to bring them masks while under police custody.”
Meanwhile, the suspects are currently being screened at the Command after which further action will be taken by the police.
The officer said the arrest was part of the effort by the police to enforce the directives on the observation of the Covid-19 protocols to stem the spread of the virus.
“The command wishes to use this opportunity to crave the indulgence of the general public to adhere strictly to the government’s directives in order to bring the virus under control,” she appealed.
