16 Perish In Gory Crash

SIXTEEN PEOPLE have been confirmed dead and four others have sustained life-threatening injuries following a gory road crash at Juaso on the main Kumasi-Accra highway.

A DAF XF articulated tanker truck from Kumasi heading towards Accra, reportedly, did a wrong overtaking at a spot popularly known as Water Works, located between Juaso and Atwedie, colliding with a Ford Transit mini bus.

The bus, which was fully loaded with 20 people, got totally damaged after the crash. 15 people in the bus died on the spot and another one also passed on in the hospital, where five injured people had been taken to.

A police statement, which has confirmed the sad news, said “On 28/07/2025 at about 1430hrs, suspect driver yet to be identified was driving an empty DAF XF Articulated Tanker with registration number GT 1674-17 from Kumasi towards Accra with his mate on board.

“On reaching a section of the road at a spot near Juaso Water Works, along Konongo-Nkawkaw motor road, he overtook vehicles ahead of him without observing traffic and in the process, collided with an oncoming Ford Transit Mini Bus No. GT 4674-22 also driven by suspect driver yet to be identified, with passengers onboard from Accra direction.

“Both vehicles landed in a ditch at the nearside of the road facing Kumasi. Suspect driver of Ford Transit Bus and all the passengers in his vehicle sustained various degree of injuries and were rushed to Juaso Government and Stewards Hospital, Yawkwei, but fifteen were pronounced dead on arrival.

“One of the five on admission at Juaso Government Hospital also passed on whilst receiving treatment. The other four are in critical conditions.”

“The bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at Stewards Hospital Morgue, Yawkwei for identifications and autopsies,” it disclosed, adding that three of the deceased people have been identified by their families.
