Students briefing some parents at the exhibition
Galaxy International School held its 14th Science and Makers Fair over the weekend at their Secondary School section located at Ashaley Botwe with own students, parents, guardians, students from several public schools and well-wishers trooping in from all corners to catch a glimpse of the spectacular event.
The motto of this year’s event was “Imagine, Invent & Inspire”
The event which is organized by the school annually for its students to display scientific projects had a twist to it this year as invited schools too were allowed to showcase their projects as well, an idea that is meant to encourage other schools to also enjoy science.
The aim of this event is to create a scientific spirit among the students, increasing their thinking and reasoning power thereby making them more creative and inquisitive.
Press secretary to the Minister of Education, Mr. Rodney Nkrumah Boateng told DAILY GUIDE that “Essentially children are naturally curious and inquisitive, and if scientific concepts are presented to them in a fun, inspiring and practical manner, they are better able to grasp and appreciate it much better than in a purely classroom or theoretical space. Galaxy International School’s innovative Science and Makers Fair captures precisely this, and I would like to congratulate the school management for this bold initiative aimed at bringing science closer to children in a meaningful, practical and impactful manner. I believe this year’s theme, ‘Imagine, Invent & Inspire, beautifully captures the essence of what this is fair is all about.”
Madam Frances Mabel Williams, the municipal director of education, Adentan, said that “the science fair is an important occasion for students from around and other places to share ideas and exchange thoughts. It offers students a precious opportunity to showcase their achievement which can motivate them to further their pursuit of scientific knowledge.”
In his speech, Yusuf Temizkan, the Managing Director of Galaxy Int’l Schools, said that “One of the aims of organizing this science fair every year is to teach students to put into practice what they have learnt in theory in the classroom so that they are able to use the knowledge gained to understand new concepts, make well informed decisions and pursue new interests. This year’s exhibition showcased numerous stands displaying various works from the various sections of the school. The projects that were exhibited covered areas of chemistry, biology, physics, information technology, mathematics, social studies, business, art and language.
