2 Arrested For Attempted Robbery

The Ho Divisional Police Command has arrested two persons in connection with the alleged robbery of a mobile money vender at CK road, a suburb of Ho in the Volta Region.

The two suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Akaboah, aged 34 and Sefadzi Ameviwogbe, aged 33 believed to be the mastermind of the robbery.

A third suspect whose name was given as Mohammed is currently on the run, DGN Online has gathered.

Briefing the media on the incident, the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, explained that Emmanuel and Mohammed were contracted by Sefadzi to rob the mobile money vendor last Monday, May 20, 2019, but were unsuccessful.

He said Emmanuel together with the fugitive attacked a mobile money vender at gun point at CK road in Ho and attempted to make away with six mobile phones and Gh? 8.000.00.

However, before they could escape, the victim shouted for help.

His shouts attracted the attention of bystanders and a Police Officer with the Volta Regional SWAT Team who coincidentally was passing by.

The officer who was not in uniform, since he was off duty, managed to apprehend one of the suspects, Emmanuel, amidst gun shots while the other, Mohammed absconded.

DCOP Oduro-Kwateng stated that “investigations revealed that the suspect Sefadzi Ameviwogbe, who had monitored the activities of the victim, masterminded the robbery”.

Meanwhile, the victim was full of praise for the police officer for standing his ground and coming to his aid despite gunshots from the suspects.

He said the policeman had to endure heckling and pelting of stones from other bystanders who were unhappy that the officer was stopping them from subjecting the suspect to mob justice.

“The policeman was not in uniform so the people did not know he was an officer and so were angry with him for preventing a mob attack as they said the robbery in the area has become one too many,” he added.

The victim said following the description given by suspect, Emmanuel Akaboah about the person who contracted him, he (victim) was able to suspect Sefadzi Ameviwogbe who lives opposite Lord Hotel along CK Road and usually transacts mobile money business with him.

The Volta Regional Police Command however advised all business owners especially Mobile Money Venders to close their operations early and be security conscious to avoid such attacks.

That notwithstanding, he assured that strenuous efforts were underway to arrest the fugitive, Mohammed to assist in investigations.
