The suspects in Police grips
The Agyen Kotoku police in the Greater Accra Region have apprehended two men who allegedly snatched a Hyundai Gotz taxi from the owner at Abeka Lapaz, a suburb of Accra.
They were reportedly offering it for sale at a farming community called Kofi Quaye in the Ga West municipality of the region.
The suspects are Isaac Agoo, 36-year-old trotro driver and Ebenezer Nii Sowah, driver’s mate, 22. They are among four alleged robbery gang who are said to have specialized in snatching of taxis. The two others, identified as Joe and Honesty, are currently on the run.
Owner of the vehicle registratered GX 5489-14, with a name and an address on the side of the vehicle that read, ‘Rosemary Oppong of Teshie Nungua Estate,’ was yet to be contacted as at press time yesterday.
The Amasaman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joseph Obeng, confirmed the purported perpetration of the crime and the subsequent arrest of the suspects.
He indicated that the suspects were about to sell the vehicle to a prospective buyer when the police busted them upon a tipoff.
Chief Superintendent Obeng claimed that upon interrogation, the suspects said that the vehicle was snatched from the owner by Joe and Honesty.
The arrested men are in police custody assisting to apprehend their accomplices.
