INFORMATION REACHING DAILY GUIDE from Ahafo Region said two persons have been killed after two communities clashed over operations of illegal chainsaw operators.
The two Kofi Gyamfi 27 and David Asuming 24 sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Goaso Government Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Thirteen others who sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of cutlass wounds including a 12 year old boy were also rushed to various health centres in the Ahafo Region and are responding to treatment according to DAILY GUIDE sources.
It is not clear what caused the immediate clashes between two communities, Ayomso and Akrodie in the Goaso Municipality but an assembly man at Ayomso told local media that the clashes might be related to activities of illegal chainsaw operators who trespassed on a forest concession owned by a man called Zedane at Tipokrom near Akrodie who managed to seized the chainsaw of the illegal operators on his concession.
After Zedane seized the machines and was heading home, the people of Ayomso blocked the road, attacked him with machete and retook the equipment and injured him in addition. This, the assembly man, Emmanuel Ababio Yeboah told the media, might have been the cause of the latest clash between the two communities, Ayomso and Akrodie. He explained that when Zedane seized the illegal operator’s machine and he was in turn attacked, the issue was reported to police but they failed to make arrest. This he said happened some few weeks ago. ‘This might be the cause last Friday’s clashes, he said.
The 13 injured are said to be receiving treatment at various health facilities in the region.
