2 Gun Runners Busted

Suspects Kwabena Gyasi and Kwame Attah

Kasoa Police have apprehended two men who allegedly attempted to sell a machine gun and ammunition at the Kasoa New Market in the Central Region.

The suspects are Kwabena Gyasi, a 21-year-old concrete pillar designer and Kwame Attah, 28, a driver.

The police indicated that a Kel-Tech sub 2000 machine gun, 70 AK47 rifle ammunition and 9MM ammunition, were concealed in a sack found on the suspects by the police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Agyeman Adjem confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that due to the spate of robberies in the area, the police had intensified intelligence gathering.

On the morning of Friday, August, 10, 2018, police had information that some men were offering a gun and ammunition for sale at the new market.

A team of plain-clothed personnel was dispatched to the scene to feign interest in the deal.

The suspects, who were prepared to sell the gun and ammunition at any cost, asked the personnel to offer any amount of money and were immediately arrested.

Upon interrogation at the police station, the two suspects confirmed that they found the gun and ammunition in a bush on the outskirts of Kasoa.

The suspects said they contacted a friend who told them that they could sell them at the Kasoa New Market.

The police commander said: “The suspects have not been able to take the police to the location where they claim the guns were hidden.

“We do not believe their story and have provisionally charged them with illegally possessing of firearms without authority”.

The two have been remanded in police custody to assist in investigations.
