Police in Kumasi have arrested two of five gun-wielding robbery suspects believed to be behind a US$16,000 cash heist at Ohwim New Site in the Ashanti Regional capital.
Bismark Fosu and George Boateng are being held for the aggravated robbery in the September 29, 2019, holdup at a private residence with three runaway accomplices, in which the victim was taken hostage.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Kwasi Mensah-Duku, said the robbery gang also dispossessed the victim of one laptop and an unspecified amount of Ghana Cedis.
On September 27, 2019, the suspects were said to have attacked a family at Abrepo, inside their apartment with guns and machetes, and succeeded in snatching a pump-action gun from them, he added.
Briefing the media about the arrest, COP Mensah-Duku said the hoodlums broke into the victim’s home around 3:30am through the back door and inflicted machete wounds on a male victim.
He disclosed that the robbers locked up the couple in a closet and ransacked the entire apartment for cash, but got nothing.
Two of the suspects were later arrested at Ohwim upon intelligence, and they admitted taking part in the two separate robbery incidents with three other accomplices who remained at large.
The police chieftain stated that one of the pump-action gun and an industrial cutter were retrieved from suspect Bismark Fosu, during their arrest.
They remain in custody, pending further investigations, he intimated.
