2 Jailed 56yrs For Robbery

A CIRCUIT Court at Fiapre in Bono Region has sentenced a 36 year old trader, Sameed Issah and his accomplice a 29 year old tailor, Constant Ivor Quarshie to a total of 56 years imprisonment for armed robbery.

The two conspired and robbed a taxi driver and occupant of his car of their Iphones and money on 11th October, 2021 at Fiapre.

The court presided over by Her Honour Rita Amomyiwa Edusah sentenced Sameed Issah on two counts of conspiracy and robbery while Constant Ivor Quarshie was also sentenced on three counts of robbery after they all pleaded guilty.

Sameed was sentenced 10 years imprisonment on count one and 12 years on count two  and both  are to run concurrently whilst Quarshie given 10 years on count one, 12 years on  count two  and another 12 years for count three and all three sentences are to run concurrently.

Prosecutor Sgt.  J. K. Partagah told the court that the complainant, one Kofi Hlordzi lives at Abesim near Sunyani in the Sunyani East Municipality whilst Sameed is a trader at Fiapre and is a tailor at Odumase all in the Sunyani West District.

On 11th October, 2021 at about 10pm the complainant hired a taxi cab  with registration number BA 863-20 driven by one Prince Owusu from Sunyani to Fiapre to pick his girlfriend and at Baffoe Awuah park near the Roman Catholic Church whilst awaiting his girlfrind to board the car, Sameed and Quarshie approached them.

Sameed then pointed a gun at the complainant and ordered him to surrender the money and phones on him to him or be shot.

The complainant then handed iPhone 12 costing GH¢8,000, iPhone 11 costing GH¢6,000 and an apple watch also costing GH¢1,800 to the convicts.

The convict subsequently gave the victim three hefty slaps and instructed him to lie on the floor and stepped on his neck several times.

While Sameed was dealing with the complainant, the Quarshie also asked the driver to hand over his mobile phone and his sales for the day to him by threatening him with a knife.

Sameed instructed Quarshie to slap the driver and took his iphone 6 mobile phone costing GH¢800 and his ignition key from him and they both bolted.

As they run away the complainant raised alarm and drew a lot of residents out who gave Sameed a hot chase and arrested him. He was given severe beatings and later handed him to a patrol team who went and locked him at Odumase Police Station.

On October 12, 2021 the police arrested Quarshie at Odumase and the two later admitted in statements to police of having committed the crime.

Quarshie later led police personnel to a bush at Fiapre where he kept the ignition key and it  was retrieved.
