TWO people were killed on the spot and some others got injured when a Mercedes Sprinter bus somersaulted three times on the Obuasi-Dunkwa road on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at about 6:30 am on the fringes of Amponyase community near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that it took bystanders and residents of the community several minutes to get all the passengers out of the bus bearing the registration number AS 3886 – 16, which was travelling to Kumasi from Tarkwa.

A police source said two people died on the spot. One victim who was critically injured was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment and care.

He was said to be among injured persons that were rushed to the Obuasi Government Hospital shortly after the incident. It was not clear whether the driver of the bus also died.

An eyewitness said dealing with the accident was “very difficult” initially before officers from the Obuasi Divisional MTTD arrived to assist and control traffic.

One of the victims, who did not want to be named, narrated that the tragedy happened shortly after a colleague passenger had claimed the driver was dozing off.

She disclosed that the bus suddenly veered off the road and began to somersault till it finally landed on its side, throwing some of the passengers out of the windows in the process.

He told DAILY GUIDE the driver appeared to have lost control of the steering wheel.
