2 Remanded Over 668 Wrappers Of Wee

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two persons into custody after they were busted with 668 wrappers of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The two, Gideon Akanbey, and Daniel Soku were arrested at separate spots in Accra.

Gideon, an electrician was picked up at Adenta after the police stormed his house following a complaint of dishonest receiving levelled against him by one Dominic Akandoli on December 3, 2017.

He was just about to light the roll of dried leaves when the police got to the house and apprehended him.

He is facing a charge of use of narcotic drug without lawful authority to which he pleaded not guilty.

The second suspect, Daniel Soku, a farmer at Mantey farms was also arrested at Adenta in Accra after Gideon told the police that he usually supplied him with the narcotic drugs.

He was caught with 668 wrappers of substances suspected to narcotic drugs and had since been charged with unlawful possession.

He also pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh remanded the two to reappear on January 18, 2018 for full trial to commence.

Superintendent of Police, Patience Mario told the court that on December 3, at about 1800 hours, one Dominic Akandoli of Nmaidzor came to the Adenta police charge office and reported Gideon Akangbe for dishonest appropriation of his mobile phones.

The prosecution said, Police proceeded to the scene and apprehended Gideon with the substance in his hands.

She said a search conducted in the suspect’s room revealed another six wrappers of the dried leaves suspected to be India hemp.

Supt Mario told the court that, when Gideon was interrogated, he mentioned Daniel Soku as the supplier and Police proceeded to arrest him at Adenta.

A search conducted in Daniel’s room also revealed 668 wrappers of dried leaves, a quantity of dried leaves and dried seeds, all suspected to be cannabis, pieces of papers, three pairs of scissors, a hammer, a screw driver, iron pincher and other rolling papers.

She said the accused persons were brought to the Police station together with the exhibits, which were sealed in their presence and with an independent witness present.

She told the court that, the two suspects in their police caution statement admitted the offences.
