MTN Ghana Foundation on World Teacher’s Day presented GH¢125, 000 to twenty (20) teachers as a scholarship for further studies under its Teacher Improvement Award Programme (TIAP) for the 2017/18 academic year.

The TIAP, according to Mrs. Pala Asiedu Ofori, Ag. Corporate Services Executive, is designed to financially assist one hundred (100) basic school teachers in public institutions over a five year period.

She indicated that the scholarship was awarded to teachers who have gained admission into the country’s universities of education to study Science and Mathematics related courses at the first degree or post graduate level.

“These subjects continue to be the bedrock of every country’s development; they are core tools in many fields of study and also equip pupils with a uniquely powerful set of people with problem solving potentials,” she stated.

According to her ten (10) of the awardees will pursue degree programmes while the remaining ten(10) will pursue Masters degree programmes in their respective institutions.

The Corporate Services Executive urged the teachers to return to post upon the successful completion of their courses, adding that was part of the criteria for selection.

Mrs. Asiedu Ofori was happy that out of the forty teachers who have benefited from the TIAP since its inception in 2015, thirteen (13) are in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and 27 are in the University of Education, Winneba.

She added that five out of the awardees have since graduated and four are expected to graduate pending the successful submission of their dissertation.

“We are convinced the future of Ghana’s development lies largely in giving teachers access to higher quality education and as a good corporate citizen, MTN will go any length to support the promotion of quality education delivery in the country,” she assured.
