Organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards UK (GMA-UK) have officially launched this year’s edition of the awards ceremony at the Omanye Hall, Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra last Friday.
The launch was attended by a large number of personalities including musicians, music producers, artiste managers and a section of music fans. It also attracted sponsors of this year’s event as well as some of the previous award winners.
It witnessed live performances from some selected acts which include Amamere Folk Music & Dance Ensemble led by its creative director, Badu Evans.
GMA-UK is being organised by Alordia Promotions in partnership with West Coast to celebrate and appreciate pioneers of Ghanaian music and to reward individuals who, in diverse ways, have raised the standard of Ghanaian music in the country.
The highly anticipated event which is in its 5th edition was hosted by renowned media personalities, Doreen Avio and Blaque Boy.
During the launch,the nominees for the various categories who made the final list for this year’s edition of the event were unveiled.The main event will take place in London on October 29, 2022.
BEATWAVES gathered that fans of artistes and music lovers have from now till October to vote for who they think deserves to win in each category.
The organisers at the ceremony said the awards scheme is being organised to market and promote Ghanaian music on the global music market as well as reward deserving artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution to the progress of the Ghana’s music industry.
Akwaboah, Fameye, Diana Hamilton, Kofi Kinaata, Bullet, Minister OJ and Celestine Donkorwere nominated in theSongwriter of the Year award category.
Acts such as Kofi Kinaata, Cina Soul, Akwaboah, Kuami Eugene, Fameye, KwabenaKwabena and SistaAfia will battle it out for the coveted prize of the Highlife Artiste of the Year.
Some of the categories include the Gospel Song of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year,Highlife Song of the Year,Hip Hop Song of the Year, Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year,Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year, Highlife Artiste of the Year, Hiplife Artiste of the Year among others.
