2024 Elections: Bawumia Pushes For Ideas, Not Insults

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

The presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for electioneering campaigns to be centred on constructive debate and the exchange of ideas over personal attacks in the lead-up to the 2024 elections.

Addressing NPP supporters at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region on Monday during his campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia urged politicians to focus on sharing ideas and data-driven solutions rather than resorting to insults.

His comments came in response to former President John Dramani Mahama’s description of some chiefs, civil society organisations, and religious leaders as hypocrites.

The NPP flagbearer argued that this type of language is unacceptable, and that politicians should maintain a respectful tone, even in the face of disagreement.

Dr. Bawumia hoped that presidential hopefuls would elevate the national conversation and ensure that the 2024 elections are decided on the basis of ideas, not personalities.

According to him, the upcoming 2024 presidential election presents a crucial opportunity for Ghanaians to choose between a forward-thinking leadership and a return to the past.

He noted that his vision for Ghana is one of prosperity, dignity, and safety, where sustainable jobs and meaningful pay are the norm, adding that he plans to build the nation on bold solutions, innovation, and effective governance.

He believes that Ghana can become a leader in digital innovation, driving economic growth and development.

The Vice President made a compelling case for his government’s policies, citing them as the foundation for Ghana’s economic growth and development.

Youth Employment

To tackle youth unemployment, Dr. Bawumia also promised to implement policies that will create opportunities for young Ghanaians to gain employment.

He said a youth entrepreneurship fund will be created to support start-ups and small businesses to empower young entrepreneurs in driving innovation and economic growth.

On the One District One Factory initiative, Dr. Bawumia said his government plans to expand this flagship programme, by creating more jobs in rural areas and stimulating local economies.

Bright Future

Dr. Bawumia promised a brighter future for all Ghanaians, assuring voters that his government would prioritise fiscal discipline, reduce borrowing, and increase revenue mobilisation to stimulate economic growth.

According to him, at the heart of his economic plans are strategic investments in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure and technology to boost farm productivity and food security, enhance transportation networks and public services, and drive digital innovation and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Bawumia indicated his commitment to tackling the country’s challenges head-on, urging all Ghanaians to support him in the upcoming election.

He said the country is poised for growth and development, and added that his leadership would be the catalyst for a brighter future.
