THE KWAME Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi was on Saturday hit by calamity as three students died, sparking anguish and panic.
Two of the deceased students, according to reports, died in a ghastly vehicular accident on campus around 3:00am and eight hours later, another student strangely fell to his death from a storey building on campus.
The distraught parents of the deceased students have reportedly been notified about the heartbreaking incidents, as the police in Kumasi have started their investigations into the two separate incidents.
A source at KNUST informed the paper that it all started when five students, including four from KNUST and one from the University of Ghana, Legon, were cruising in a car on campus around 3:00am.
Suddenly, the source said, the vehicle, which was said to travelling at top speed, veered from the road and hit a tree, resulting in the deaths of two of the students, whose names were not known to the paper.
Another student, also onboard the now mangled vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and was said to be fighting for his life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The two remaining students are in stable conditions as they are responding to treatment in a hospital.
According to the source, news about the deaths of the two students spread like wild fire on campus, as it sparked sorrowful scenes. But as the students were mourning, another tragedy occurred.
A level 100 male student, who was said to have visited his friend at the Unity Hall on campus, unfortunately fell from the first-floor of the tall building and landed on his head, resulting in his sudden death.
The source disclosed that onlookers rushed the then motionless student to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The police are investigating the two incidents.
