The Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in collaboration with National Security operatives, has arrested 32 Nigerians at Kasoa-Tuba for suspected cybercrime offences.

The coordinated early morning operation led to the seizure of 31 laptops and 15 mobile phones suspected to be linked to cybercrime activities.

The arrest came just a day after Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, was arrested over his alleged involvement in a romance scam network that defrauded foreign nationals in the US of over $8 million dollars.

The suspects are currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations, while the seized devices are undergoing forensic analysis.

The CSA, in a post on Facebook, said the operation forms part of the Authority’s sustained efforts to combat cybercrime and related offences nationwide.

“The CSA remains committed to safeguarding Ghana’s digital space in close collaboration with its security partners and encourages the public to report suspicious cyber-related activities through the appropriate channels,” it added.

Confirming the arrest, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, wrote on Facebook: “This dawn, another massive blow has been struck against cybercrime in Ghana.”

He added that government will continue to support the Authority in its efforts to do more “as we make Ghana an unattractive destination for cybercrimes.”
