The awards scheme was instituted to recognise and honour distinguished music industry personalities from the region who have contributed positively to the growth of the music in the region as well as Ghana.
Organised by Westline Entertainment with sponsorship from Rigworld Training Centre (RTC), the main awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11 at the Best Western Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Public Relations Manager for Westline Entertainment, Nana Kwesi Coomson, disclosed that three new categories such as urban gospel song of the year, Afro-pop song of the year and brass band of the year have been added to the already existing 23 categories, making a total 26 categories this year.
He said the new categories will help other genres in the industry to be recognised as well.
This year’s event will kick off with a series of activities like a nominees’ party music seminar for artistes and stakeholders, among others.
Mr. Coomson mentioned that this year’s event seeks to review songs produced and played in 2018, adding that “Our 2018 calendar year starts from March 2 2018 to January 31 2019.”
He announced that nominations for this year’s awards are open to interested artistes in the region.
