Four staff members of the Somé Senior High School (SHS) in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region have been remanded into custody by the Tokor Circuit Court at Tokor for further investigations.
The accused persons are the Richard Ametorxe (Bursar), Yorm Dzikunu (Matron), Alex Obuadi (Storekeeper) and the Assistant Headmistress in charge of academics.
They have been charged with the theft of food items meant for the students but pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared in court.
However, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted the Bursar, the Matron, and the Storekeeper.
It has also formed a committee to investigate the matter within two weeks.
This followed a search conducted by some alumni and the assembly member on the evening of Friday, May 24, as the Bursar and Matron were leaving the school.
The search uncovered a significant amount of food items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray, among other items, found in the Matron’s possession.
The Ghana Education Service has vowed to get to the bottom of this issue and ensure that appropriate actions are taken against those found guilty.
The public is urged to cooperate with the authorities as the investigation continues.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the management and accountability of resources within the education system, and it is hoped that the investigation will lead to a thorough review of the school’s policies and procedures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
