41 Police Recruits Sacked

IGP, David Asante- Apeatu

The Ghana Police Service has sacked about 41 recruits who undertook training in five police training schools across the country for four months.

At the Pwalugu Police Training School, 22 recruits were sacked, while 10 recruits were also sacked at the Kumasi Police Training School.

Five persons were also sacked at the Police Depot Training School while four persons were dismissed from Koforidua and Ho Police Training Schools.

The recruits, according to the police administration, were found to have applied with fake certificates, while others altered the grades on their certificates to meet the academic qualification.

Superintendent Cephas Arthur, Director of Police Public Affairs, told DAILY GUIDE that most of the suspects presented fake certificates while others brought certificates belonging to other relatives and acquaintances.

“As part of our processes of verification of certificates from the West African Examination Council (WAEC), we discovered that the affected persons even brought certificates of the opposite sex but had only changed the names and photographs to correspond to their names.”

He said the police administration used to the verification process to weed out undesirable characters from the service.

The moment the person is admitted to undergo training, the verification begins and this continues until that recruits pass out, he added.

Superintendent Arthur said even if a recalcitrant recruit passes through the stages to the final stage, the police administration would still dismiss that fellow.

This brings the number of recruits sacked by the police administration for using fake results this year to 300.

The dismissed recruits, he disclosed, have been charged with forgery of documents and impersonation.

Meanwhile, 10 persons sacked from the police training school in Kumasi have been arraigned before court.

They have been granted bail while investigations continue.
