The suspects
Five suspected armed robbers who were involved in series of robbery incidents within Sefwi Bekwai and its environs have been arrested by the Western North Regional Police Command.
The suspects were identified as Iddrisu Abdalla, 20; Abdul Rahaman Abubakar, 21; Okasha Mohammed, 19; Toffic Bawa, 24 and Richard Gyapong, 35.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led surveillance operation within Sefwi Bekwai and its environs in the Western North Region.
During the operation, the police officers intercepted three of the suspects riding an unregistered motorbike.
Upon reaching the Mpesiem Police snap checkpoint, the suspects failed to stop and were pursued and arrested.
A search conducted at their respective places of abode resulted in the retrieval of a backpack containing numerous talismans, a face mask, and finger rings – items suspected to be used to facilitate their criminal activities.
Preliminary investigations linked the five suspects to multiple robbery incidents in the Bekwai area.
According to a statement by the police, all the suspects are currently in their custody, assisting ongoing investigation.
