5 Killed In Auto Crash

Five persons have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident that left 16 others with various degrees of injury on Monday at about 8pm, following a collision of a Sprinter bus and a Toyota Hiace.

The gory accident occurred at Kyekyewere, a village along the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.

Supt Joseph K. Owusu, Suhum District Police Commander, briefing DAILY GUIDE at the scene, said one Osei Asante was driving the Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ER 1058-16 from Kasoa in the Central Region towards Koforidua with passengers on board.

The police chief said the two vehicles were on top speed and as they were approaching Kyekyewere, near Asuboi, Osei Asante, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle, rammed his into the passenger side of the Sprinter, with registration number AW 1329-14.

“Three persons – two females and one male – on board the Toyota Hiace, died on the spot while about 16 others were injured and are currently on admission at the Suhum Government Hospital receiving treatment,” Supt Owusu disclosed.

He added that the other driver was yet to be identified.
