Five members of a robbery gang have been dragged before a Circuit Court in Accra and another court in Koforidua in the Eastern Region for robbing multiple victims of their belongings, including mobile phones and various sums of money.
Akwasi Owusu, 26, and Aticho Kojo Kalovi, 27, both unemployed, have been remanded by a Circuit Court in Accra to reappear on March 4, 2026.
Kwame Bediako, 40-year-old businessman; Ishmael Addo, 30, Okada Rider, and Mumuni Abdul Razak Akakuub, 39, a Cocoa Processing Clerk, are in custody at the Koforidua Regional Police Headquarters for similar robbery cases.
The five have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery and abetment of robbery.
Court documents indicate that the accused had planned to undertake their “usual robbery expedition” and subsequently converged at Pokuase and boarded an unregistered black Toyota Camry with DV plate number DV 1487-7 2025 owned and driven by Kwame Bediako.
According to the brief fact read by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, the accused, upon reaching Ofankor Total Filing Station at about 9:02 p.m., parked on the roadside in front of the filing station.
Akwasi Owusu, Kwame Bediako and Ishmael Addo allegedly alighted from the car and attacked a complainant in the case, while Aticho Kojo Kalovi kept watch for them in the car.
Addo, who was said to be holding a pump action gun, pointed it at the complainant and his colleagues, and subsequently tied the complainant and the colleagues hands at their back with a duster and kept them in a vulcanising shop.
Bediako then snatched GH¢2,400, iPhone X and a Nokia keypad phones from the complainant.
Whilst the complainant and his colleagues were still under bondage, Kwame Bediako and Ishmael Addo entered ‘Just Ask’ pharmacy shop and robbed two attendants a total amount of GH¢6,000 as well as a Samsung Galaxy A23.
The two locked the complainants inside the pharmacy and abandoned the keys outside. The accused persons then sat in the car and sped off.
The complainants later made a report to police. On February 6, 2026, Akwasi Owusu was arrested in connection with the robbery case.
During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the robbery and mentioned Bediako, Addo and Kalovi as his accomplices.
The document added that investigation revealed that the unregistered pump action gun used during the robbery was supplied to Bediako by Mumuni Abdul Razak Akakuub for their alleged robbery activities.
