7 Robbers Killed In Kumasi

Some suspected armed robbers believed to have killed a police officer, L/Cpl Daniel Teiku, attached to the SWAT Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command were yesterday shot dead by the police, an incident which attracted a large number of onlookers, most of them taking shots of their bloodied lifeless bodies at the scene.

The seven, one of them on the run, reportedly killed L/Cpl Daniel Teiku, who was travelling with his colleague L/Cpl Eric Nsiah on the outskirts of Ayirebikrom, near Manso Nkwanta last week.

The two cops were travelling onboard a Sprinter bus with registration number AC-644-15.

The daredevil robbers, who were said to be armed with AK 47 assault rifle and pump action gun, attacked not only the police officers but other passengers.

In the course of the confusion that ensued, the masked robbers reportedly turned their vengeance on the cops, seized their weapons and shot them alongside some passengers.

The surviving cop was rushed to the St. Martins Hospital at Agroyesum, where he was treated and discharged.

Also on admission at the facility are four injured passengers, who are said to be responding to treatment.

The regional command reportedly proceeded to retrieve four AK 47 rifles, a G3, a pump action and some ammunition from the crime scene.

Two of the firearms were those snatched from the cops. The recovery was based upon a tip-off.

There is a heavy police presence in the vicinity of the crime, as a search was ongoing at the time of filing this report to apprehend the other suspect.

Anxious media persons who stormed the regional police headquarters were disappointed when the intended press briefing was put on hold.

The bodies of the robbers have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue for a routine post-mortem.

A Toyota car suspected to be used by the robbers with its rear windshield spotting bullet holes was on display.

Perhaps during the postponed press briefing, the police would throw light on how they engaged the armed robbers in a supposed firefight.

So far, the available information spots gaps which requires filling.
