A car that was crashed under the Police truck
The driver of a fully loaded Renault cargo truck carrying what was believed to be foodstuffs, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into eight other vehicles at Nima, a densely populated suburb of Accra, yesterday.
The truck, with foreign registration number 4B8126RN, was believed to be heading to the Nima Market to offload the goods; and preliminary reports blamed the accident on break failure.
There were no casualties except minor injuries suffered by persons who happened to be at the scene when the crash occurred.
The accident resulted in heavy traffic congestion at both sides of the Nima-Mallam Atta road, compelling vehicles to opt for alternative routes to reach their destinations.
The affected vehicles, most of which had been parked along the street, were a police TaTa truck with registration number GP 2130, black Nissan Micra numbered GN 1704-16 with Beige Capital inscribed at the sides and a badly damaged car with registration number 6949-13 which was pushed under the police vehicle.
The rest were a Mitsubishi Estate with registration number GR 6011-15 – pushed into a shop (Home Diapers), destroying a number of items on display – a taxi numbered GT 6751-13,Toyota Sequoia V8 (NR 260-11), a Renault saloon car and a Mercedes Benz the number of which could not be determined as it had been sandwiched by other vehicles.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to DAILY GUIDE, the accident occurred at about 2pm.
He explained that the articulator truck believed to be arriving from the Republic of Niger, was spotted at a suburb of Nima popularly referred to as Commandos and descending the steep slope to make its last entry into the Nima Market, rammed into a vehicle, resulting in multiple accidents. He said it could be brake failure.
