The Northern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Bruce Ayisi, has disclosed that 301 names have been deleted from the voter register in the region.
According to him, 138 names were from Tamale Metro whiles 62 came from Sagnarigu and the remaining 101 came from the various EC offices in the districts.
The Electoral Commission has released the list of 56,772 persons whose names were captured on the electoral roll as having used the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card as proof of Ghanaian citizens to register their names prior to the 2012 general election.
The commission on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 announced that it had already deleted the names in compliance with the Supreme Court order and will give them the opportunity to re-register from Monday, July 18, until August 7, 2016 (the period for the exhibition of the voter register) if they are able to prove their Ghanaian citizenship. The exhibition is to enable all voters to check their names in the register.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Bruce Ayisi said the speculation that electoral officers are threatening to boycott the exercise over the allowances meant for the 21 days for the exhibition in the Tamale metropolis is not true.
He indicated that senior officers are paid GH¢400 while their junior colleagues are given GH¢350 and so the allegation that some officers would be paid GH¢720 was not true.
The officers alleged that their colleagues in other regions were to receive GH¢720 whiles they would receive GH¢400 at the end of the exercise.
Mr. Bruce Ayisi advised voters to come out in their numbers to the various centres and make sure that their names are captured in the register.
