The mangled Toyota Corolla vehicle at the scene
Four persons died on the spot yesterday in an accident which occurred near the Kpone Barrier on the Tema-Aflao highway in the Kpone Katamanso District of the Greater Accra region.
The deceased, Ebenezer Akuaku, 48, Eric Dorglo, 31, Ativor Christopher, 29 and Elikem, four-year-old, died in the accident which happened near the Bulk Oil and Distribution Storage Transport (BOST).
A two-year-old girl, who was on board the vehicle, is receiving treatment at the Tema General Hospital.
Corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary of the Tema General Hospital pending autopsy.
Eye-witnesses told DAILY GUIDE that the accident occurred at about 11:30am when Eric Dorglo, the driver of an unregistered Toyota Corolla with a DP Number 1928A-16, which was heading towards Dawenya direction from Tema attempted to overtake a vehicle.
According to them, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a fuel tanker that had been parked on the shoulders of the road.
“We tried to pull them out but the four persons died on the spot. The driver of the tanker who was standing close to his vehicle was not spared as he was also knocked down by the Toyota Corolla driver,” an eye-witness disclosed.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) William Jabialu, Commander of the Kpone District Police Headquarters, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, explained that that portion of the road should be redesigned by the relevant authorities to minimize accidents on the road.
He said police have launched investigations into the case, adding that the baby girl is currently at the emergency ward of the hospital.
