The Northern Regional Media Advisory Committee, set up by the National Media Commission (NMC), has held a forum for media practitioners on Responsible Journalism to promote peaceful co-existence in diversity towards nation building.
The forum, held at Tamale, was to sensitise journalists on the need to deliver their mandate responsibly before, during and after the December Elections.
Presentations were made by participants on Ethical Journalism, the challenges involved and their respective solutions.
Togbe George Debrie, the Chairman of the Media Advisory Committee, stated that the media was seen as a powerful and credible source of information in society, therefore, it was critical for journalists to report the truth.
Togbe Debrie, who is also the Deputy Registrar of the University for Development Studies, advised media practitioners to be circumspect in their reportage to ensure professionalism.
“They should also guard against the temptation to be judges,” he advised, saying, “You should instead focus on your roles to educate, inform and entertain the society.”
