41 V8 Cars Belong To Judicial Service

Julius Debrah

The immediate past Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has indicated that recent Toyota Landcruiser V8 vehicles cleared at the Tema Port belong to the Judicial Service.

Reacting to media reports about the 41 imported V8 cars, Mr Debrah said the Judicial Service imported those vehicles and needed clearance to exempt it from paying duties which was facilitated by the presidency.

He insisted that the cars were not imported by the Flagstaff House as alluded to in the story published by DAILY GUIDE on Friday.

“They are not for the Executive,” Mr Debrah is reported to have said.

Initial report suggested the 41 brand new V8 engine Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles at the Tema Habour were cleared by the “outgoing Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government with just a day for a change in government”.

According to sources, customs officers were confused as to whether the vehicles should be released or not since they are exempted from duty.

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), officer in charge of the Port, Assistant Commissioner, Confidence Nyadzi, also clarified that he received correspondence from his head office asking for an action which he directed to the scheduled officer to act on, explaining that there were no instructions from the out-gone government as the publication indicated.
