President Nana Akufo-Addo
Mr. President has the prerogative to hire whoever he deems fit to work with and to reverse the status of this contract as and when in his estimation such action is appropriate.
Indeed, that is why he is President of the Republic and prerogative stands him apart from the rest of us who gave him the power to run the affairs of our country.
We have observed the pain he is taking to choose the men and women for his team. We are, however, a bit concerned that something appears warped that needs correction, lest we suffer avoidable consequences.
We have gone beyond a dozen plus names and still counting even as we await the deputy ministerial list which would increase the tally. We think, by this statistics, we are heading for a number which might put a strain on the public purse which has already been depleted by the recklessness and bad governance of his predecessor.
Even as he makes the appointments, he should be wary about the possibility of duplication of portfolios. The expectations are high and we cannot afford to have spanners thrown into the spooks in these early days of what by all standards promises to be a fantastic tenure if we are meticulous about avoidable shortcomings such as under review.
The sulking members of the opposition NDC are scrutinizing every move that the President takes and would relish quality deficiencies as ready straw to hold on to in their pitiable state. It is for this reason, alongside the great expectations of Ghanaians, that we seek to have him get everything right at this time. Ours is to ensure that all goes well with the Ghana Project, which he is presiding over so that in the end the many laudable programmes he promised Ghanaians which convinced them that there is light at the end of the tunnel with him at the helm, are achieved.
Ghana must work again according to specifications of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. We would raise objections to developments when these threaten the accomplishment of our political goals as laid by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
We appreciate the enormous pressure the President is containing at this time of compiling names of his dream team.
He must get it right, lest a blunder triggers a negative conversation. We cannot afford a failure at this time when we have just come out of a crazy government under which things went haywire and state institutions had all but lost their shine and become rudderless.
We have also observed a deficiency in the balancing of the ethnic groupings in the list of nominees. While we do not doubt the quality of these persons, we want to remind the President about something he well knows.
In practical local politics you do not downplay the issue of ethnic balancing in the roll call of your team.
What he has presented so far has not favoured some parts of the country as particular ethnic groups are not amused that they have been left out of the service list. In an election whose outcome was emphatic suggesting just how much President Nana Akufo-Addo appealed to majority of Ghanaians, we must watch out for avoidable drawbacks so that the momentum can be sustained and the expectations of Ghanaians are not dashed.
