The suspect pleading for mercy
But for the timely intervention of some police personnel, a young man, believed to be in his late 20s, would have been lynched in the early hours of Wednesday, March 22 for allegedly stealing a motorbike.
Some eyewitnesses claimed the hardened criminal, who continuously steals motorbikes and terrorizes traders in the night and the day, had been released several times by the Police.
The injured suspect was saved from the mob at Tindonmolgo, a suburb of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, by the police personnel.
Earlier, the young man ran into a shop to avoid being lynched, but had to run out when the mob tried to set the shop ablaze.
His ordeal follows a recent abuse and humiliation of a lady believed to have stolen some money from a trader.
The angry mob also pounced on a young man, who was seen taking video of their action before the police arrived.
They beat him up and smashed his phone to prevent the police from investigating the matter.
In recent times, thieves have terrorized inhabitants of Bolgatanga Municipality and robbed people at gunpoint of their belongings.
Many motorbikes have been stolen in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
