Techiman NHIS Office Burnt

Documents at the NHIS office in Techiman were burnt into ashes on Saturday.

The incident which occurred around 9:00am attracted a huge crowd. It took the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. As it stands now, unless there is a back-up as far as the documents are concerned, anyone who will take over as the new municipal boss of the NHIS will meet nothing to work with.

Speaking to journalists when he visited the place, the municipal boss of the scheme, Mr Apau, stated that he was at home preparing to go for a funeral when he had a call that his office was on fire.  Asked whether he suspects any foul play, Mr Apau said since the cause of the fire is not yet known, he will not speculate.

Meanwhile, when the news broke out, residents who spoke to DAILY GUIDE expressed shock, saying they suspect that the act was done to cover up some bad deals at the place.

A trader who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity stated that all along, they have been suspecting the NHIS office of a foul play.

He appealed to President Akufo-Addo to, as a matter of urgency, appoint a new MCE for Techiman South so that he (the new MCE) will quickly set up a probe into the issue in order to find the culprit.

He said from all indications, the person or persons who committed the act poured petrol on the container before setting fire on it.
