The Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has been appointed as the Managing Director of Intercity State Transport Company (ISTC).

Mr. Akomea takes over from Nuamah Donkor, who was appointed by former President John Dramani Mahama in 2014.

Titus Glover, Deputy Minister of Transport made this known when he paid a working visit to ISTC yesterday to familiarize himself with the operations of the company.

Mr. Glover, who was accompanied by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance and other officials, also held a meeting with the outgoing MD, Mr. Nuamah and management.

He commended the MD for taking steps to get the company out of the crisis, calling on the management and staff of the company to offer their full support to the incoming MD, Mr. Akomea.

Mr. Glover, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the maintenance culture at the company, urging it to improve the maintenance culture.

He entreated management to manage the company like their own property to ensure success.

“Why is the private sector doing well more than government, is it because we don’t take government work seriously and we do whatever we like?” Mr. Glover quizzed.

“It is time for a paradigm shift to change things for the good of everybody.”

The outgoing MD, Mr. Nuamah said with structures he had put in place, ISTC would soon reclaim its past glory.

He said the company would receive about 100 buses from a private company this year, adding that a Driver Vehicle License Authority (DVLA) center would soon be established on the premises of the company to facilitate vehicle valuation and inspection.
