Tema Flour Mills Workers On Strike

Workers of the Tema Flour Mills Ghana, a private food manufacturing company in Tema in the Greater Accra Region, on Tuesday laid down their tools due to the non-payment of their salaries.

According to the workers, their salaries have remained in arrears for over three months without any reasonable explanation from management.

They were also of the view that deductions had been made to their salaries for several months without their knowledge.

The workers called on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, who is also the Minister of Food and Agriculture, to intervene in the matter to save the company from collapse.

Clad in red armbands, the workers left the operational yard of the company and vowed not to return to work until their monies were paid.

A representative of the workers, Wisdom Tay, told BUSINESS GUIDE that the workers only engaged in a sit-down strike to press home their demands for their salaries and two-year provident funds.

According to him, they would not return to work until management pays them their salaries.

Attempts by the paper to get management of the company to comment on the matter proved futile.
