President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo wants his compatriots to make a conscious effort to promote gender equality in the country.
Unless that happens, he is of the view that no matter how hard women try to assert themselves in society, they will remain disadvantaged as compared to men.
Speaking at the first Gender and Development Initiatives Africa (GADIA) Awards held at the Banquet Hall of the Flagstaff House under the theme, “Making Gender Equality the Private Sector’s Business,” President Akufo-Addo said the promotion of gender equality at the work place, particularly in the private sector, is a necessary tool in the quest to eradicate poverty in African countries.
He therefore urged the various chief executives and managers of enterprises to do all they can to support the move to promote gender equality on the African continent.
The GADIA Advocates Charge (GACH) Award is a premier advocacy award scheme instituted by President Akufo-Addo under GADIA to support sustainable contributions towards gender equality and the progress of women employed within the private sector. The GACH Award will be bestowed on a specific number of prominent businessmen across the continent who will be charged by the president as AU Gender Champions for the continent to take concrete and measurable steps within their respective companies to enhance gender equality over a particular period of time.
The top eight businessmen selected for the role included Roy Aboku, CEO of Ocelot/Investa Capital; Dr. Kofi Amoah Abban, CEO, Rigworld Services Limited; Dr. Zibrim Yamusah, CEO, Yamusah Group of Companies; Dr. Kwabena Adjei, CEO, Kasapreko Company Limited; Dr. Yaw Adu Gyamfi, CEO, Danpong Group of Companies; Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, CEO, Despite Group of Companies; Albert Osei, CEO, Koko King Limited and Kwasi Twum, Founder and CEO, Multimedia Group Ltd.
